This course determines the core competency of CompEx (E&I) and Foundation course certified personnel to work with “Explosion Protected” mechanical equipment. The training programme and syllabus cover the selection, assembly and routines associated with mechanical equipment for use in hazardous areas, including flange integrity assessment. This course will meet the competency requirements for ISO 80079 Part 36 & 37 and EN 13463 for operatives working with mechanical equipment.

This qualification is suitable for practicing mechanical operatives who are involved in installing, inspecting and maintaining non-electrical (mechanical) equipment in locations where gases, vapours and/or dusts can potentially create a hazardous area.

The course is aimed to provide necessary knowledge and competence to work with explosion protected mechanical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres. CompEx (Ex01–04) & Foundation course certificate holders are eligible attend. Candidates will be trained to demonstrate their competency in preparation, installation, inspection and maintenance of mechanical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Basic requirements to join the course:

  • Must have good standards of both written and verbal English

  • Possess Mechanical qualification from the vocation schools that enable us to determine the mechanical competency

  • Possess Employment certification (Clearly indicate the mechanical work experience in the recent years)

Applicants should possess the assumed skills and knowledge as outlined in the competency standards as follows:

  • Knows the relevant legislative, regulatory, local requirements
  • Understands procedures for safe working practice and systems of work in an industrial setting
  • Can read and interpret relevant engineering drawings, related specifications, quality standards and equipment manuals
  • Understands the hierarchy of responsibilities in relation to reporting and decision-making
  • Understands the need for and particular methods of achieving safe working practice in Ex environments.
  • Has practical, theoretical and technological knowledge and understanding of Ex environments
  • Understands the requirements, materials and equipment considerations, in relation to working in Ex environments

Candidates who are successful in both the theory and practical assessments will receive a CompEx Certificate in Core Competence.
